Senior Picture Tips for the girls: How to Prepare for Your Senior Photo Session in Scottsdale, Arizona

Preparing for your senior photos doesn't have to be stressful! A little planning goes a long way in helping you feel confident, relaxed, and ready to have fun.

As a Scottsdale senior photographer, my goal is to create senior portraits that feel authentic, joyful, and uniquely you. From choosing the best light to helping you pose naturally, I'll guide you through every step of your session, so you never have to wonder what to do.

Here are my top tips for an amazing senior photo experience.

Fresh Manicure

Your hands appear in more photos than you might think! Whether you're adjusting your hair, holding your graduation cap, sitting with your hands in your lap, or showing off your favorite ring, your nails will be visible.

You don't need an elaborate manicure. Clean, well-groomed nails with a neutral polish or your favorite color photograph beautifully. If you don't wear polish, simply trim and clean your nails before your session.

Outfit Prep!

One of the easiest ways to reduce stress is to try on every outfit several days before your session.

Check that:

  • Everything fits comfortably.
  • Undergarments stay hidden.
  • Shoes are comfortable enough for walking.
  • Jewelry and accessories coordinate with each outfit.
  • Steam out all wrinkles in clothing

Planning ahead gives you confidence and allows us to spend our time creating beautiful images instead of solving wardrobe issues.

Bring your HYPE Person! I will be your's too!

If bringing your mom, best friend, sister, or another supportive person helps you feel more comfortable, absolutely bring them along! They can help carry outfits, fix a stray hair, or simply make you laugh between photos.

But here's the secret…

You already have a built-in hype person—me.

I know being in front of a camera can feel intimidating, especially if you've never had professional photos taken before. That's why I spend the entire session encouraging you, helping you relax, and celebrating the little moments that make your photos feel genuine.

You don't need modeling experience. I'll guide you through natural poses, tell you exactly where to look, what to do with your hands, and how to move so your images feel effortless and look like the very best version of you.

Spray Tan?

A healthy glow can look beautiful—but this is not the week to experiment.

If you decide to get a spray tan:

  • Schedule it 2–3 days before your session.
  • Choose a trusted technician.
  • Stick with a natural shade.
  • Avoid going darker than your normal skin tone.

Professional editing cannot always correct an orange or uneven spray tan naturally. My goal is for your photos to look timeless and truly represent you. My vote is not to spray tan, but if you feel like your best self with it, go for it with these considerations! Moisture well the day of your shoot with or without a spray tan!

My Job Is to Make This Easy

As your Scottsdale senior photographer, I'll help you every step of the way—from planning outfits and choosing locations to coaching you through every pose during your session.

You don't have to know how to pose.

You don't have to worry about looking awkward.

You don't have to be "photogenic."

That's my job.

By the end of your session, my hope is that you'll not only love your photos—you'll say, "That was actually so much fun!"

If you're looking for a Scottsdale senior photographerPhoenix senior photographer, or Arizona senior photographer who will help you feel confident, comfortable, and completely yourself, I'd love to help you celebrate this exciting season of life.
